Japan opened its first
Honorary Consulate General in Casablanca in 1938. After the independence of
Morocco in 1956, a new chapter in the relations between Morocco and Japan had
been noticed with the establishment of diplomatic ties. Japan opens its Embassy
in Rabat in 1961 and Morocco opens its Mission in Tokyo in 1965.
Regarding our economic bilateral relations, years ago when
Morocco got its independence in 1956 some far-sighted Japanese friends spared no
time to begin their business with Morocco. We have since then enjoyed very
cordial relationship. Though the volume was small and the products were limited
at that time, it was indeed a very good start. The trade volume between our two
countries has been increased continuously from then on under the cares of both
governments. A relationship that began mainly with
seafood products has now extended to every conceivable area of cooperation.
Fruitful results have been obtained in our bilateral cooperation in the fields
of economy, trade, science and technology, culture and education. The
Morocco-Japan relationship can be regarded as a good example to follow.
Being a steadfast friend of
Morocco, Japan has been instrumental in the development and improvement of our
socio-economic environment through its ODA Programs in the vital sectors
of rural irrigation, electrification, health and vocational training and active
participation in the areas of bilateral trade and investment.
